Put simply, we want to train Caribbean students. 

Minimum Academic Requirements for students from the Caribbean Educational Systems (including Barbados)

1. Five CXC/CSEC (Grades I-III), GCE "O" Level or GCSE subjects (Grades A-C) in English, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.AND 2. Three 2-unit CAPE or three "A" Level subjects, of which two must be in Biology and Chemistry.AND3. University or College-level undergraduate coursework with fulfilled AUIS pre-medical prerequisites (for details see AUIS catalog 2018-19) which may include:

a.      UWI Pre-Science Programme in Biology, Chemistry and one another.


b.      Associate Degree from an approved regional community college majoring in Biology, Chemistry and one other subject with GPA greater than 2.0.


c.       Equivalent qualifications (as determined by Registrar).

Additional Requirements

​1. ​Applicants must be eligible to apply for US visa during Clinical Clerkship training
2. ​Health professionals with clinical practice experience are encouraged to apply.

Age Requirement:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of admission or by December 31 of the year of admission. 

Non-Academic Considerations

  • All candidates are required to submit a short autobiographic sketch outlining the reasons for their career choice (300 words or less) Candidates must also produce evidence of their involvement in relevant extra-curricular/co-curricular activities, socially-oriented projects and voluntary community service in the year prior to their application.

The commitment of the American University of Integrative Sciences, School of Medicine to its host country, Barbados, as well as the overall Caribbean community, is in part supported by this tuition grant available to the citizens of the region:

Academic Grant for Caribbean Citizens:  An academic grant is available to citizens of the Caribbean Basin who wish to pursue their medical studies at the American University of Integrative Sciences, School of Medicine Barbados. The grant can be awarded to 12 new recipients each calendar year, with additional, smaller grants disbursed in cases of large numbers of quality applicants.  Applicants must have an undergraduate or Pre-Medical GPA of at least 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) in a science-related field of study from a recognized college or university. Eligible applicants must write a one (1) Page Essay to the Admissions Committee indicating why they wish to be considered for the grant, in addition to submitting an application for General Admission. The Grant sets Basic Sciences Tuition for Caribbean students at $5900 USD/Semester for the first five (5) Basic Science semesters, the entirety of your time on Barbados. While no additional scholarships can be applied during the first two years of Basic Sciences, we encourage you to apply for one of our general scholarships during your clincal education.  To apply for this grant , simply indicate your undergraduate school and national origin on your application.
